Math Goals

Term 1 (September-November)

Topic 1: Numbers 0-5

  • Students will count, group, read and write numbers 0-5
  • Students will solve math word problems 
  • Students will use the following math tools: counters, number cards, connecting cubes

Topic 2: Compare Numbers 0-5 

  • Students will compare groups of numbers up to 5
  • Students will learn greater than, less than, equal to

Topic 3: Numbers 6-10

  • Students will count, group, read and write numbers 6-10

Topic 4: Compare Numbers 0-10

  • Students will compare groups of numbers up from 0-10
  • Students will continue to solve math word problems

Topic 5: Classify Count Data

  • Students will be able to classify objects into categories and tell why they are in each category
  • Students will be able to use counting to compare objects in different categories
  • Students will be able to tell whether the way objects have been sorted, counted and compared makes sense

Term 2 (November-March)

Topic 6: Understand Addition

  • Students will put numbers together using cubes.
  • Students will add using pictures to find sums up to 10.

Topic 7: Understand Subtraction

  • Students will write subtraction sentences for pictures.
  • Students will solve subtraction sentences up to 10.
  • Students will solve subtraction word problems using pictures.
  • Students will take apart numbers in word problems.
  • Students will write subtraction sentences up to 10.

Topic 8: More Addition and Subtraction

  • Students will take apart numbers up to 5.
  • Students will solve addition and subtraction word problems using pictures.
  • Students will add or subtract numbers up to 5.
  • Students will complete addition sentences with sums up to 5.
  • Students will take apart numbers 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 in addition sentences.

Topic 9: Count Numbers to 20

  • Students will count on ten frames from 11 to 15 using pictures and numbers.
  • Students will count on ten frames from 6 to 20 using pictures and numbers.
  • Students will identify numbers up to 20 using a ten frame.
  • Students will count on a chart up to 20.
  • Students will count forward on a chart to 20.
  • Students will represent numbers up to 20.
  • Students will find numbers before, after, and between on a number line up to 20.

Topic 10: Compose and Decompose Numbers 11 to 19

  • Students will make teen numbers using addition sentences.
  • Students will take apart teen numbers using addition sentences.
  • Students will find ten more on a chart up to 20.

Term 3(March-June)

Topic 11: Count Numbers to 100

  • Students will count using patterns up to 30.
  • Students will count by ones and tens to 50 and 100.

Topic 12:Identify and Describe Shapes

  • Students will name two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes.
  • Students will identify circles, triangles, squares, rectangles, hexagons, and name solid shapes.
  • Students will describe shapes in the environment.

Topic 13: Analyze, Compare, and Create Shapes

  • Students will count vertices and sides of two-dimensional shapes.
  • Students will compare two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes.
  • Students will make new two-dimensional shapes from other shapes.

Topic 14: Describe and Compare Measurable Attributes

  • Students will describe and compare objects by length and height.
  • Students will describe and compare objects by capacity and weight.
  • Students will describe and compare objects by measurable attributes.
